The Delta Science Center sponsored the Cal Alive! Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Ecology Institute in November 2011. For the first time the Cal Alive! organization added a Delta component to its educational programs. The event invited teachers from all over California to learn more about the Delta and how to introduce their students to the Delta in the classroom. The two weekend event drew teachers from as far south as Fresno, as well as from San Mateo County, Sacramento County and of course Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
The group visited Big Break Regional Shoreline (future site of the Delta Science Center), the town on Locke off Hwy. 160, Delta Meadows River Park, the Antioch Dunes, Dow Wetlands and took a boat tour on the Delta.
